The Witton project.

This project centres around the Witton Park Greenhouse project, based in Blackburn Lancashire.
The work captures the Zeitgeist of a growing season. Following the space from summer solstice to Winter solstice 2023 and focusing on the people and community involved in the greenhouse project.
For me this work is about long-term interaction and connection with people and space. I tried to see the camera as secondary when at the greenhouses, focusing instead on engaging with people, activities and being present in the space.

All of the portraits in the series come from prior conversations which have led to portraits, rather than simply approaching someone and asking to take their picture. The project is shot on medium format colour film, this is partially a stylistic choice, but is primarily to match the process of shooting to the feeling of the greenhouse, shooting on film and the activity of growing share a slow methodical process.

With special thanks to the wonderful people at the Greenhouse for being part of the project and for being so welcoming.

Extra special thanks to Andy Mather, The Lancashire Wildlife Trust, Obscura Darkroom, Ian Halawi, and Come through Lab for processing some of the film.
